How do you brand a new neighborhood?

Varyer invited me to join its strategic team to tackle one of the most ambitious development projects in Chicago's history: a $7 billion reimagining of the West Side. As the team's narrative strategist, I went deep researching Chicago's history, neighborhoods, and culture — all of my favorite things.

CLIENT   Google

AGENCY   Article Group

In the months after the pandemic, I contracted with Article Group to produce content and copy for Google's niche enterprise-tech client base — namely, a microsite dedicated to "The Future of Work" (which, at that time, was nebulous and a little scary). Together with the team, I organized existing assets to serve as a robust resource library, and wrote a companion eBook to help folks navigate the future of work via Google's range of enterprise tech products. I also copyedited additional eBooks and pitched in on related cross-channel campaign work.

CLIENT   Illinois Humanities

AGENCY   Span

In tandem with a redesign led by Span, I worked with the communications team at Illinois Humanities (a state arm of the National Endowment for the Humanities) to rethink public-facing messaging and content across the entire website. Upon completion and launch of the site, I rewrote and updated the org's style guide to reflect our changes and ensure consistency of institutional knowledge going forward.

CLIENT   CWT

To help this global travel company successfully relaunch its travel booking app, I entered a long-term contract to work with a product UX team on streamlining the app's content for voice/tone consistency. Beyond the product team, I raised my hand to serve on the CWT Accessibility Committee and pitched in on general communications projects.

CLIENT   Walgreens
AGENCY   Wunderland

To help bolster Walgreens's burgeoning hub of health and wellness content, I was brought into a collaborative writers cohort as an editorial storytelling specialist. Alongside traditional healthcare writers, I helped expand and diversify a range of stories for the flagship health company's blog, The Thread, with heavily researched longform content.

CLIENT   Airbnb

Toward the beginning of the pandemic when everyone started booking road trips, Airbnb responded by creating a vast network of destination guides. The idea was to create SEO-friendly content written for a global audience, to help people find socially distant stuff to do near their bookings. All told, I wrote more than 40 destination guides.

CLIENT   Soho Waterworks

Soho Waterworks was established in Q4 2019 as a brick-and-mortar boutique selling fine waters from around the world. When the pandemic hit, I worked with the CEO to pivot the company to an e-commerce importer of fine water across the Northeastern U.S. We hired out for the stunning brand ID, photography, and web dev, but literally everything else — from sales decks to signage — was written, produced, and directed by me.

CLIENT   The Resort at Paws Up

AGENCY   Dog Can Hunt

I joined the in-house creative agency of this luxury Montana dude ranch as a contract writer for its advertorial magazines and digital marketing flows. After about a year, I rose the ranks to edit the primary magazine and, ultimately, manage and edit the manuscript for a coffee table book on the history and legacy of the property.

PRO BONO CLIENT   Comfort Station

Since fall 2023, I’ve served as pro bono Marketing Director for this nonprofit arts and culture space in the heart of Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. I have the joy of working with a colorful group of volunteers to promote arts programming, fundraising campaigns, and a wide and wonderful variety of events. Our work is fueled by a shared love for this century-old rest stop–turned–arts space.
